Not sure if I ever seen the ammo anywhere guess this would be a reloaders gun.

I've had a few of them over the years, currently have a 4" Model 57 and a 3" Model 657 (and a Ruger Blackhawks in the same cartridge). Once in a while you'll come across ammo in the shops, though it's not real common. All the major manufacturers still produce it as far as I know. So yes, hand loading will help you greatly. Good cartridge though, well worth the effort. - dan

It can even be difficult to find projectiles for reloading (although not impossible) and the selection is very limited. Unfortunately it seems to be a dying caliber, although not dead yet

Too bad it is dying out and so hard to find. I'd love to add that model but i don't reload. It has a very loyal following because it has a flat trajectory. It is a better magnum cartridge for the N frame than 44 mag.

Agreed, but for some reason dies aren't difficult to find and brass is far more commonly available than I would have imagined. Definitely a reloader's caliber and possibly best left for the casters. Only now that I have a mould for it do I not fear running out of ammo for my Ruger .41.

S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum

Have had one in 4" and currently have one in 6".

Yeah, best as a reloader's gun.

The 41 mag is a great cartridge but alas you must be a reloader and it also helps a lot if you cast your own bullets as well. I shoot the 41 mag a lot throughout the year.

Here are some pictures of my more favorite ones.

First up is a 6 in S&W model 57 with a 6 inch barrel

Second is a not very common S&W model 657 Stainless model with a 7 inch barrel

Third is a S&W model 657 stainless with a 8 3/8 inch barrel

Last but not least is a very early special order gun. It is a model 57 with a 8 3/8 inch barrel but was ordered with a front sight that can be changed and it came with a set of sights as well.
