.410 ammo in bulk question

I'm looking at buying my son a .410 for x-mas. I've never looked at ammo cost before.
Can you guys tell me where I can buy bulk 410 shells and what a good price on shells is?
I've seen target stuff for 65¢ but most is 75¢ or more.

WallMart, sells 2 3/4 inch shells in boxes of 25 for $12
 
Yes, you would THINK that .410 would be cheaper than 12 ga......less lead, less powder, smaller wad etc.....but NO, they make us take it up the rump on the .410......pretty expensive ammo for sure
 
you would be better off getting a 20ga more shells and less money for them plus less wounded birds. I have seen to many kids with a 410 and wounded birds. 20ga shells are not to bad to buy for some of the big box stores. as a skeet shooter I can tell you this there is no such thing as a cheap 410 lol or 28ga for the matter

I load my own .410 3 inch for less than 15 cents per shot. You still need a few hundred hulls to get going, and toss more in the mix at a later date. I get more than a dozen loads out of them before I toss the hull
 
just trying to find a box of .410 in canada is not easy

ive reloaded for them for a bit now with no press but the hulls need to be resized now and then i just use a roll crimp right now i got 100 loaded with #12 and ready for pest control time

I have no problems at all plenty of 410 everywhere it's not cheap 20 a box so. I don't reload it and 1 guy at the range loves that I don't reload it said I was crazy not to but with the cost of the getting the gear and all the stuff setup with the time vs how much of it I actually shoot it wasn't worth it I don't go through enough of it to make it cost effective to reload it.

45 acp and 308 win I reload its defently worth it...

I like 410 shotgun it packs a good punch and doesn't destroy your shoulder shooting it the weight of the gun is easy to pack around vs a 20 or 12 sure 12 has more power but depends on what your useing it for and the 410 has enough punch to get the job done anyways if your hunting.

the .410 is all i use now for pest control and with #12 it puts out a nice dense pattern i have 2 .410 shotguns a bolt action and a little backpacker the backpacker gets more use
 
How old is your son now? I was going to start my guy off with a 410 as well but got talked out of it by a wiser old sole. Went with the 20 gauge youth model from Savage and that little gun is making its way to various families as their children advance in years. A lot more pellets in the air when they first learn to shoot, and with target ammo recoil is not a factor, plus ammo is way cheaper. FS
