I find myself hooked on the 28ga as of late and have to like every other gun I own need to perfect a reload for it. A certain 410 over under has my attention as well. I am having a hard time finding quality reloading items for shot shell in general. Does anyone here have a go to place for shotgun shell reloading? Crimpers, roll crimpers? Thanks for any help in advance.

there's new bench mount roll crimpers by FT camping out of Russia but if using factory hulls that had a fold crimp you will find they wont roll crimp very well unless their trimmed. the old standard shotshell press that I know of in .410 is MEC I don't know if you have ever loaded shot shell but get a manual and follow the recipe exactly no substituting anything(primers/powder/hull/wads)unless its a replacement wad like claybuster or down range(they make copy's of factory wads from Winchester Remington and federal). shot shell reloading is not like metallic there's really no sign of over pressure and this can lead to very catastrophic thing happening

I wanted to buy a MEC but found out it only works well for 2.5 and 3" hulls
I load anything from 2" grouse shells to 3" on a survival loader that I got from the US.
Lately I switched to brass cases and didn't need the shotshell loader any more.

MEC makes reloading stations for shotshells, they are very common. People typically get one for each gage they reload. They perform all the functions, including a folded star crimp (not sure why you want to roll crimp?) Lawries and Hummasons in Ontario (MEC dealer) are excellent resources.

I've had a MEC 650jr for .410 for several decades. It likes the 6 crimp and I've become OK with it. The shells are not so friendly to change. Once a hull is crimped it always wants to bend that same way. Over the years I've done lots of experiments and there is always a dozen or so casualty hulls in the change. I no longer change, I just keep things the way they are. I can get 10-15 shot per hull before they are garbage. The .410 is the best chicken gun for the bush I hunt in. I'll never go back to another gauge or bullet.

I like roll crimped loads on paper hulls(not goting to find any new .410 paper but) I have been switching to card wad loads as of late hate leaving plastic wads in the brush/field even came up with a way of making carboard shot cups after searching on what the muzzleloader guys do. wish some of the big company would start using biodegradable wads(down range makes a couple) and hulls paper hulls will rot if left out but not very good in a waterfowl blind

I going to load some 2" up soon with 5/16 oz of number 9 use these for pigeons and rats

I don't have a press in .410 I will be looking for a mec 600 in any gauge at the next gun show I go to and buying a set of dies if that don't work I may build something like this only with a sizing die
Hard to find anything or anyone doing it, 410 and 28ga have become so expensive in atlantic Canada and the need to improve on factory stuff has me hooked.... I find the 28ga just perfect out to 30 yards!! Thanks and anyone else with any info is great!!

if I make one im going to cut a piece of leaf spring flatten it out and anneal it and drill it out with a 15/32 drill bit then weld this to a threaded pipe coupler and heat treat it. the same thing could be done with a piece of 5/8" galvanized pipe and a mec resizer bushing

I went to one of the Canadian tire locations here and all they had on the shelf in imperial shells was 28ga I think their under new management and don't get a lot of firearms related stuff restocked for some reason
The new Imperials of today are not the same shells as yesteryear. I believe another company bought rights to the name and are pimping it. The 12ga as only 20rds/box instead of 25.Don't know about the smaller gauges?Challenger with Cheddite hulls?

pretty sure their made by challenger and yes their cheddite hulls found it odd that all they had was 28ga though once I find a new spot I will be using the 12ga no4's for turkey. some of the first shot shells I ever fired where the original imperials wish they still made that ammo I have about 1500 ivi and cil imperial hulls kicking around

I find a box or two here and there at gun shows the new "imperials" I think may only be a Canadian tire thing just like their old store brand only had 20rds in the box but they pattern well enough in my stevens 58 to be my turkey load don't need 3 1/2" loads to kill turkey.
