.410 for skeet

When starting a new shooter on skeet, especially with a small gauge, skip the first 6 stations and go to low 7 and let them shoot low 7 til they get the smile of confidence.

This is by far the best way to start.
Then bring them right around to station 1 and go at it again.

X3 Did just that with my son with a 28 gauge auto and is really hungry to keep shooting. Later I got him to fire a single round out of my Benelli 12 gauge (target load) and he said the recoil wasn't that much more BUT he said he was having way more fun with the 28 and felt more confident in busting clays. He tried the 410 single, the 20 gauge auto but I never saw the smile I did when he shot with that 28

If you reload you can make some 12 gauge 3/4oz loads. Almost no recoil and they break the targets the same way 7/8oz loads do. Let me know if you want the load recipe.

I have loaded 7/8 but I would not mind trying 3/4 if components are easy to get. Recipe please. Pm. if you like.

I would go with a gas auto loader in 20 ga. much easier to get shells for and a bigger payload than the 28 ga.

Win/64, I thought a shooter as yourself would not need the extra payload but for a new shooter I think it would be worth while to actually look for a smaller payload= less recoil. For skeet the 28 does not give up much to the 20.

My daughter shoots a Citori in 20 ga. I reload it with 3/4 oz load with 14.5-15.0 grs of unique powder. They shoot very well in fact I like them. They are so soft we call them Powder puff loads. If you don't reload but know someone that does they could help. Standard AA type wad (Claybuster) works but I only use Win AA or Remington hulls because of the tapered body.
Don't use the cheap Win. hulls as they are straight wall and don't seal well with the reduced load.

I just think the 20 would be more versatile than the 28. Even for a new shooter.
