Any body here ever try shooting slugs out of a 410 Lee Enfield? It would make a nice grouse-deer gun combo for those casual days in the bush. I have never shot a deer with a 410 but I figure a slug out to 80m would be fine? What do you think.

You may find a .410 Enfield ..BUT...caution must be taken... as many were converted to fire .303 brass carts that were fire expanded and made into .410 cal. These cannot shoot the 2 1/2 " modern .410 ammo. I fortunately have one that was military converted to modern .410 caliber (camp guards during WWII). Great for birds and varmints but very heavy to carry for long in the bush.

the laws in ontario says you may only hunt deer with a shot gun of 20g and bigger when loaded with shot !! a 410 slug is fine !!!! we have one older gent that shots a 410 shot gun with slugs for deer and he gets his deer every year DUTCH

I remember when we were living in Kirkland Lake, it was common practice by almost everyone to carry a few 410 slugs in their pocket when hunting grouse. Quite a few moose were taken every fall with them! My neighbour did it often.

Probably a few wounded as well. :(

I've had a couple of .410 enfeilds, not impressive with slugs or anything else.
They are heavy and slow as a shotgun, and innacurate with slugs as a "rifle".
The most accurate .410 slug gun I had was a cylinder bore, and the shot pattern with no 6 sufferred for the lack of choke. I would'nt have much faith in the .410 as a dual purpose gun, esp an enfeild.
My choice would be to get a 12 or 20 gauge and a couple of .410 adaptors(skeeters). With a double trigger 12 gauge (sxs or ou) you have a choice of
.410 shotshells for up close or roost shooting,12 or 20 gauge shotshells for longer range and wingshooting, and slugs for anything that walks in Canada.
Now that's a gun that'll do everything(and I'm bringing with me to the mountains next weekend)

I went today and found some slugs for my 20ga SxS. Now I just need to see what kind of accuracy I get out of it- i don't have much hope past 40m.

I guess the way to go for dual purpose is a modern pump 12 or 20 with iron sights and a rifled barrel, then one can use shot up close for birds or slugs out to 100m for big game.
