410 ????? mossberg 410 or rem 870

Personally I believe the 870 Express is better than the Mossberg 500. You also have the option of the 870 Wingmaster and Browning BPS but BPS is a heavy .410 compared to the 870. On the used market there's the original Winchester Model 42 as well as the Winchester/Browning Model 42 copies that were produced in Japan in small quantities over the span of a few years.
I bought both new at one time. Sold the 500 after one box of shells and kept the 410 express. Enough said but there is a following for the 500 also but for me I kept trying to compare it to a 870 which it is not
Of the rest the 870 wingmaster is my choice by far but I don't own an original model 42 just have the reintro and never fired it so far and never will. I find the bps too long but to each their own

My experience is exactly opposite. My express was a pos. It would not properly feed or extract, and the finish was extremely prone to rust. I would not own another. The Mossberg on the other hand has not missed a beat. I think the Mossberg is a better engineered gun as well - it is lighter, the safety is in a better place, the loading gate is out of the way so it doesn't pinch your thumb, and it has twin extractors.
In the 1980s I used to shoot a wingmaster which was light years better than the express, but from a pure functional stand point, I still think the Mossberg is better.
