Anyone using overshot cards when they are loading .410?
Everything I have read suggests better crimps and more uniform performance.

Maybe no more vest pockets full of #9's....

Comments and experiences welcome.

I adjusted the crimp on my Mec 600. Trial and error. Once adjusted your set for that brand of case. If you can adjust your final crimp die you won't need wads.

X2

Its all in the adjustment. I only use 3" Winchester hulls. and haven't adjusted anything in years. I use Mec 650jr

Still need wads, just no OSC :)

thegunnut, I agree with the other guys it is your crimp but one other thing I learned loading with Cheddite hulls is that I needed to reduce the shot drop by about 10 pellets less to just get a little more plastic to crimp with.

Not required if you set your machine up correctly for the hull you are using
It is when you use different hulls and don't reset the machine I get issues
Can normally interchange old AA and sts but that is about it. Rest require a readjustment
Cheers

I have 4 Mec 600's in various gauges and still haven;t got the .410 one working properly.Irritating to load .410

Yes I was then tried some HS hulls then some Cheddite.........may soon be a boat anchor.............. NFG

Figured
See if I can remember this
The original old aa compression formed 410 hulls had issues with length on the ones with the black writing all were shorter than the silver writing ones and some batches of the black writing ones were even all over the place as far as length goes based on the batch
Then the HS came out and once again the first ones were different again from what is being sold today plus you had to use a new HS wad in all HS hulls
Old AA silver letters work the best if you can get them but if you are mixing in the others you have to watch your adjustment and lengths with every batch and what wad you are using
Not sure if I make any sense here. Yes a pain for sure
Cheers

The Brits pioneered the folded crimp back in the '30's. They were looking for a solution to "cartwheel" or "donut" patterns, where there is shot concentration on the periphery, but none in the centre. What they found was that the overshot card was interfering with the shot column. The folded crimp was the solution. Using overshot cards would be a big step backward.

Have never seen a difference on shooting paper plus we have been reloading shotshell back in the day when all we had was roll crimp and cards
All the card did for me was slow down the reloading
