.410 shotshells in 45-70 rifle, are they effective on small game?

WT,

The Manitoba regs must have changed...when I lived there, I'm sure we could use centrefire rifles on upland game. Of course, that was a couple decades ago now...

And yes, you would definitely want to try to head or neck shoot game if you were using a larger calibre centrefire rig. Although, it's unlikely that a big game bullet designed for use on - you know, big game would expand at all on a grouse for instance. As such, it would probably leave plenty of the quarry intact.

i know H&R makes a .410/.45 Colt combo. You can fire shot shell or a bullet out of the same gun, is this possible with all .410s? I am just curious as it would be a great way to add some knock down power to a .410 camp gun.

Ok, so perhaps the .410 shells will chamber, extract, shoot and all that...but what will the shotshells do to the rifling is something that would concern me a bit?

Yeah, that's what I meant....just asking. If one didn't screw up and use migratory (steel) shot anyhow, that would certainly be a problem?....no?

No! More of a plastic problem from wads! Migratory (steel) shot? You would have to handload those because steel in not available in a .410 factory loads.
At least not in Canada. Can you imagine how few pellets of large steel shot it would take to make even 1/2 oz:rolleyes:
