410 slug considerd centre fire?

A 410 is a shotgun. As per most regs a center fire is a rifle ( common understanding ). As far as I know even a rifled barrel on a shotgun does not make it a rifle. If you would like to argue the finer points with the CO go for it.

Read the full regulation. It says nothing smaller then 20g when liaded with shot. A slug is not shot. A 410 slug is fine for deer in ontario.

Legally? Asking for a friend :) Don't see much difference. Actual reason I'm curious is the regs here say centrefire and minimum 20g for deer.

It says nothing smaller them 20g when loaded with shot. A slug is not shot. 410 slug is fine for deer in ontario

I wouldn't use it on big game, but the guy that lived across the street from us killed a moose with a 410 slug when I was a kid - but then moose don't take a lot of killing. With a choked shotgun I wonder if one loaded pure lead bullets? You'd also get much better "killing power", as even at those velocities, because pure lead would expand. A front stuffer in 45 with a 250 gr. Maxi ball over 70 gr. of fffG gives about the same performance, and is fine for bear. It also opens up to almost an inch.

A 45 Colt would be between .452 and .454 depending on the vintage and maker.Nothing I'd fire in a FC Cooey .410 Rumors of natives using 44-40 in them as well but 38-40 may be more believable? Use the ammo the gun was designed for you will live longer.

Come to think of it, I had heard of 44-40 in the 410, but then there are several guns/rifles/revolvers/derringers that are chambered for 45 Colt/410. I've heard of guys using 2 1/2" 410 in 45-70, but when I tried chambering one in my lever gun, the extractor wouldn't grab consistently, so I didn't try it. Maybe I should try one in my Classic Buffalo Rifle.

Last i checked Creston BC wasn't Ontario...

Bc regs say "shotgun must have a bore diameter of 20ga or larger and use shells of shot size no1 buck or larger".

So as Gatehouse pointed out, 45colt is probably not legal in a 410 here, as using a 410 regardless of what's coming out the barrel is illegal for deer.

However, I would think caramels h and r survivor would be legal, as its a 45colt rifle and 410 in one.

First time I heard about shooting .45LC out of a .410 and I have both.

But I have to ask,is it safe to both shooter and gun? If so I may have to try it.lol

Depends on the gun. Some are designed to fire both. If it's not designed to fire both, you'd be putting a 452cal bullet down a 410cal hole - not wise...

Bought some 410 slugs in anticipation of the chiappa 410/22. Hollow point 100gr slug at 1775 fps be fun to do some testing. Sounds like a good bush gun especially when combined with the 22lr.

This is the exact point dutchhunter had made.....a slug is not considered shot

I think the regs are blending in shotgun only areas. In BC can't speak for other areas. Can't use slugs in those areas regardless of gauge. Because of population density I guess. Roads houses etc.

this is indeed interesting from a legal point of view
a slug cannot be construed as shot in my opinion
the BC regs say that shotguns with shot shotshells have a limit of 2 + 1 whereas with slugs they have no magazine limit so there's a clear distinction.
But who's going to try this in court? :)

Odd. I always thought that the 3 shot thing was due to an international treaty.
