Hello.

How would a 450gr bullet with .720bc traveling at 2350 muzzle velocity compare with a 300gr bullet with .298bc traveling at 2700fps as far as bullet drop and effective range.

Meaning would the 450 be able to be aimed better/easier at 300 yards with less bullet drop.

Maximum realistic range of both? Ft lbs of power at said ranges?

Still learning this all and they say the only stupid question is one not asked. Thanks for looking!

Jeff

Got a PM from a guy who was a great help. As it turns out they are pretty much a dead heat to 300yrd with equal trajectory. I updated in case anyone was wondering

Just as a heads up for what it's worth- those big 450gr Hornady bullets are designed specifically for the .416 Barrett- shooting them out of one of the slower .416's like the Rigby or Remington is gonna require a very fast twist, and they will not be able to fit in a standard magazine due to length.

Very valid point and thank you for sharing.

I was more concerned about how the lower grain compared to it at the faster speed. There is load data given for the 416 Ruger but I couldn't see spending the extra money when the performance in the Ruger would be nearly identical.
