Hey all. It seems as though im about to start assembling another rifle before i finish my 250 savage so ive settled on a 416 Taylor. However i cant decide on what contour. Itll be a hunting rifle and i want it lighter than my 458wm
It will be a shilen prefit barrel on a savage action in a laminated stock. Im thinking 21" finished length blued barrel. Id also like to be able to have a set of nice express sights added on eventually

Any insites on barrel profile and contour?

agreed on the contour,I'd still go 416 taylor, brass is availible and always will be. easy to make from 338 win, 458 win etc..
I had a custom 416 taylor years ago, sometime its good to be different.... damn now I want to build another one

I built my 416 Taylor on a LH Ruger Model 77 with a 22" King Barrel. Sorry, not sure what contour it is. It has a NECG banded front sight and removable NECG rear peep for back up. I have a Trijicon 1-4 scope mounted in Ruger rings on it. It wears the original Ruger pepper laminates stock, that is glass and pillar bedded, and has crossbolts installed.
It's load is a 350 Gr Barnes TSX at 2400 fps with 69.0 Grains of Re-17. Shoots comfortably and is sub-MOA. I have properly headstamped brass from Quality Cartridge for it. Never was able to locate any A-Square brass.
Plan to use it on my next bison hunt, and perhaps one day, Africa.

This is my second. My first was built on a rh Ruger Model 77 by Ralf Martini, and was in a B&C synthetic stock. It would put 3 rounds of 325 gr Barnes X Bullets into a cloverleaf at 100 yards with open sights. Bought it play with the cartridge and learn about it. Sold it to build the lh rifle.

Just sayin' .............. :)

My 416 Taylor is Built on a WBee Vanguard action with a 22.5 " Bob Jury #4 SS Barrel - NO sights ! Stock is a Bell & Carlson with bedding block and its also glass bedded all the way out the barrel channel - its Black with the Red Spider Web ! Timney Trigger -Scope is a B&L Elite 1.5-6 mounted in Warne Rings and on Warne Bases . Just over 9 lbs ready to BLAST stuff with ! I too have some Quality 416 Taylor head stamped brass and some made from New Necked down Norma 458 WM brass - Just shot it a bit with some 350 Speers and some Horn 400 DGX s ! Its not that BAD of recoil ! ;) RJ

I had originally planned on using a savage 300wm as a donor action but sold it to a buddy to help him get in the big game game so my project has stalled. Now im debating trying to find another interarms mark x action like my 458wm or possibly just rebarrel a zastava 458wm or wait till a cheap savage 110 pops up. Push vrs controlled feed doesnt bother me as i own and use both.
This rifle will nit likely leave canada as the headstamp concern with using necked down 458 brass. Itll just be a bear and moose rifle. And well because i just feel i need one to be honest

The .416 Taylor is what the .375 Taylor hopes to be when it grows up. :)

Guess again ...... The 375 CT or H&H or Ruger is everything anyone will ever need in this country and most times they won't even need that. :)

"Want" on the other hand is a whole different story.

No problem ...I got a Super 30 in the mail this week that will be perfect for moose hunting if the tags come this fall

 A little late perhaps, but considering age etc, I 'should' be making efforts to downsize the contents of the gun safes. As it is, ;) I think they're breeding behind those locked doors :p. For Moose, I have a model 68DL Schultz & Larsen in 358NM that gets the next call.
