Apparently the premise of improving on existing calibers hits the wall at 8mm because the projectiles take powder space, making them wimpy.
No using monometal bullets and eschewing über-pointy spitzers (or spitzers at all for that matter) will maximize case capacity and velocity. Guys talked about the 375 WSM on the Campfire and there would have been plenty of complaining if it couldn't cut the mustard.
