I was just down to the local Co-op browsing through their fishing stuff. When I wandered past the gun counter they had 6 lbs of various IMR powders all labeled $42.99!

Is that the going price now? Holy smokes! I knew there was a shortage but that is double what it should be.

Wholesale for me for most IMR is ~$30/lb now.
So $36-$38 is reasonable for a brick and mortar store around me.
$42.99 is not far off.

There is the first problem. They are a joke on ¸everything as they are usually 20% more then everyone else.

New shipment of primers - $5.49 / 100. They won't even sell the whole case locally - 300 max/ to a customer. Rationing has begun!

That dink in Regina did the same thing to me. Purest @sshollery if you ask me. This isn't communist China! If someone comes into a business and wants to buy something you should sell it to them. I can't imagine being in the business of selling items not selling something out of fear that everything will be sold. Isn't that the whole point of a free-market economy?

Way I see it, free market also means the shop owner's free to do whatever the hell he wants. If he prefers helping out as many customers as possible instead of letting a single one horde all his goods, shouldn't he be free to do so?

$42 is high. I just bought a pound of WIN231 for $29.
All this panic buying cannot last forever! Not sure if the prices will come down all that much now that they are up however.

powder prices

Picked up a pound of reloader 22 in the outfitters store in victoria last month, $54 incl taxes, 200 fed 215 primers was$13.60. Didn't have much choice as our bulk order was still about 3 weeks away. As previously stated, bulk buys are the way to go as i think our average worked out to be $32lb for imr powder and $44 per 1000 on primers

Same scenario here...powder prices are robbery...I gave up on reloading, so I sold all my gear and bought a compound bow to play around with;)

That's because some a**hole will come in and buy 10,000 primers and then no one in town can do any re-loading till the next shipment comes in
- and we all know how long that takes.

Happens all the time here. I think there has to be a 'within reason' placed by the store owner so everyone gets something = build a shooting community.
300 is weak I agree, but how about a brick or two?

Wow. I think it was about 3 months ago when I paid an average price of $30/1000 for large pistol and large rifle. I stocked up enough to keep me busy for a few years. Thanks to all of the people here, I was getting the message that there were more shortages than normal. My gut told me to buy lots. I was worrying that maybe I had overbought and that the supply would come back and the prices down. So far, my gut was right. Hopefully, time will prove me wrong.

I'm still paying mid-twenties per pound of powder, but primers have indeed increased to $36, up from $24 when I started handloading last year.

And hey, all you west coast people get your own sh*t together and stop "group buying" from Higginsons! He's OURS! :p

This sounds like the wrong time for me to be buying a 223. will I even find small rifle primers?
Dante's in Montreal always seems to have primers handy.

36 for 1000 primers - good price. Shooter's Choice in Waterloo is selling Varget for 43 per pound and 100 primers for ... $10 ...
