I went out this morning for an hour to look for some coyotes thought it was a bit chilly but I went anyway. I finally had some luck. I called for 5 whole miniutes and one came running across the field. I knocked it over with the 270 thought I would wait to get it in case another came out. 10 minuites later the bugger got up and tried to run away so I gave him one up the pooper. That kept him down. I went to the truck and got the axe to get the paws and came back (with out the gun ) only to see another one running across the field. So I got my paws and walked to the end of the field and started calling and within 5 minuites another yote came out of the trees about 60yrds from me. I was all dressed in white except for the big black mits I was trying to shack off my frozen hands to get a shot away and he busted me. 50% still a pass to me:D
Is there any truth to the saying cold weather means hungry coyotes? If thats the truth they will be starving tomorrow because it is supposed to be -54 with the wind chill....
I think I'm going to sleep in and stay warm .. that doesn't make me a pussy does it!!

It's amazing what a coyote can take and still get up. I'm not going out in that weather.

Takes a lot of calories to stay alive in -40C. Now that the big game hunting season is over and most of the gut piles are all cleaned up the 'yotes will only get more desperate to get those calories!

I guess there is one advantage to living in an area where it gets down to -54 with the windchill... This will be my third winter back in 'The land of the Lost' & tonight I was bichen cause it was minus 17 with the windchill. Got soft in my 'older' age, I guess.:D

not sure how much my heating bills are, I've never kept track of how much fuel I burn between the truck and the chainsaw to get about 14 cords of wood. I have electric back up but it draws 104 amps when all 5 cells are on and I think that would cost about $2.50/hr to run...it's there just for show..
-50 c outside +25 inside

^^ Stew them with toad warts and monkey eyes, drink it and you get a 4 hour hard on!

There is a bounty for yotes some places now and a paw or paws are turned in for a few bucks.

4 paws are worth $20 till Mar.31 in Sask. Those coyotes are a crafty bunch but in weather like this it helps gettin 'em in that's 4 sure but you still gotta do it right or they just get educated& then you only get a 600yrd poke at them!Good luck

The 22-250 is my choice topped with great glass. To my surprise the .204 hits very hard to 300yrd as a buddy has proved many times this season nothin worse than walkin in 600yrds,shootin another 200-300yrds&then trackin for several more ?yrds you end up along ways from the truck in -40 weather.

I normally use my 223 but I had seen a nice big black wolf in the area the week before and would love to get a poke at it..that's why I had the 270 out that day.
