4200 vs vx111 vs conquest

So I raised my budget a bit and started reading around and it seems that the bushnell 4200, zeiss conquest and leopold vx3 are all very popular lines but I would like to know which one is the best.

which line do you recommend? which 3x9 / 2.5x10 brand did you get?

and is there another brand that can compare in quality and price to these 3 that I mentioned?
 
I'd take the Zeiss first, then the leupold, then the Bushnell, but if you were talking about the Bushnell 6500, I'd put it on top.
 
The Zeiss has nice glass but their scopes are long and heavy. My Zeiss 3x9 conquest is longer and bigger than my Leupold VX2 4-12 AO. If you want to stay light and compact, the Leupold is hard to beat.

In the 3-9x range I also really like my Burris Fullfield II. Nothing fancy but very good glass and an excellent scope. Considering the price difference, I went with the Burris for my 3-9x scope.

good advice, I was planning to go and check them out myself but i wanted to know which scope to lean towards incase they all looked the same in a tiny indoor shop
 
If they wont let you take them outside then find a shop that will, scopes are not designed to be used with artificial light.
I would suggest keeping the Bushnell on the list until you can see them all for yourself.

I 2nd that!!

I have both the VX2 and the VX3, and a Bushnell 3200 and 4200. I won't be be spending the extra $$ on the Leup's again!

You could throw Nikon in the mix as well but of the three you've listed, the Zeiss would get my nod but you really wouldn't go wrong with any of them.....all good glass for the money. And yes, I do own all of them....:)

How did it destroy them? I've got a 4200 on an 8 pound .375H&H that's got hundreds of rounds through it with absolutely no issues. What did Bushnell have to say when you sent them back for warranty?
 
I bought my XCR from gotrdone on the EE in near mint condition and he owned it at the time. He went out of his way to warn me about the rifle being hard on scopes so I wouldn't repeat his experience. He told me both the 4200's were new and they were destroyed in less than 20 rounds, but did not give exact details of what he meant by destroyed. Apparently Bushnell did replace the scopes with new ones without problems. The XCR is a bit lighter than your rifle, but with 100gr of powder it kicks way more than 375H&H. I've shot H&H for years and also went to the range with my father, who shoots H&H as his primary rifle and he shot my RUM one time and won't shoot it again. That's one of the gripes against the RUM; 350 fps more velocity than the H&H, but seems to kick like twice as hard.
 
You could also try a Kahles they are up there with Zeiss... I just became an exclusive leupold man... all my rifles and my slug gun are outfitted with leupolds I have alot of there product like Rifleman, Shotgun, VXII Ao, VXIII they have never let me down my dad has had one for close to 35 years now without and problems on his slug gun...

I was thinking about zeiss for longer range shooting when upgraded my elite 8X32X40... once you had that amount of magnification on a rifle its hard to go down but I choose 8.5X25x50 from leupold because anything with more magnificaiton was twice as much from nighforce or schmidt and bender...

A good scope will last longer then you will...

I would guess your rifle is actually heavier than mine when you add in the scope and rings. As for recoil, felt recoil will have no effect on a scope, only actual recoil will and with the few hundred extra fps you will have a few more pounds of recoil but I have a hard time believing it would destroy a scope, let alone two of them.....possibly but the only issue I've ever had with a scope and recoil was the reticle coming loose and turning. Possibly Bushnell had a bad batch of 4200s or something but with proper rings and bases, there's no reason the 4200 couldn't handle the recoil of a 375 of any breed.
 
Leupold all the way. Best warranty in the business. I do have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 that came off a .378Wby and survived ;)
No more Bushnell for me.
 
Well it depends what your looking for, quality glass, price/quality ratio etc. I would say the Zeiss conquest is superior to both for quality, and quality/price ratio. The leupold has pretty nice optics too, but very overpriced. At wholesale sports for a VX-III 3.5-10X40 or VX-III 2.5-8x36 are both $629.99, where a zeiss conquest 3-9x40 is $499. I dont think I could justify paying $130 more for a scope thats not quite as good, thats my main problem with leupold, very overpriced. Bushnell elite 4200 are great scopes too and they are relatively cheap for the 3-9x40 model $300, thats a great deal in my opinion, they are great optics, damn close to ziess and pretty much equal to VX-III.
