Hi guys,
I know it's an old thread but I just tested a few loads myself. Here's my data so far....
Rifle : Marlin 1895 Trapper (16'' barrel)
Powder : IMR3031
Brass : Starline (once fired)
Primer : Federal Magnum 215
Bullet : Jet bullets RNFPGC 425 grains (real weight between 417 and 422)
Crimp : The bullet doesn't move under 60 pounds of push (really tested it on a weight balance).
OAL : 2.48
Chronograph : V3 Magneto Speed
Scope : Vortex Crossfire 2 moa red dot.
First run was from 38 to 45 grains I was getting speed between 1225 to 1524 but was getting a lot of unburnt powder in barrel and chamber due to lack of pressure. My best load at that point was with 40grains giving me a 1 inch group at 50 yards.
My second run was from 46 to 49 grains. Speed was between 1552 and 1722 Very little unburnt powder at 46 and 47 grains and almost none pass 47. All the grouping were at least within 1'' but my best grouping were as follow (done at 50 yards) and for the grouping sizes I took away the bullet diameter...
My third run was from 48.5 to 52.0 grains. Speed was from 1688 to 1840. No unburnt powder what so ever. All within an inch also, best one was 51 grains with 0.5'' group.
46.5 grains - 0.50'' - 1640 fps
47.5 grains - 0.50'' - 1655 fps
48.5 grains - 0.25'' - 1688 fps
51.0 grains - 0.50'' - 1815 fps
I really had to concentrate on my trigger cause let me tell you, these loads are not for the faint of heart
So far no signs of pressure what so ever.
