43 grains powder for 308 reloading. Seems too much.

150 sierra

Sierra Edition V Manual uses Federal cases with Federal 210M primers - for IMR 4064 and 150 grain they list 43.5 as Start and 49.1 as Max loads. Hodgdon Annual Manual lists multiple weights using Winchester cases and Federal 210M primers - highest weight I see is 50.1 grains with 125 grain Sierra SP. All of their Max loads for IMR 4064 are identified as "Compressed" right up (down) to 42.5 grains with 200 grain Swift SP.

Did a ladder load for my BCL 102 with 4064 started seeing flat primers around 45.5.. 46 grains was a far as I got most accurate was 43.5 4064 150 gameking with federal primers was just over 3/4 at 100 yards good enough for a deer lol

Compressed loads are a way of life with certain cartridge/powder combinations.

I shoot a Remington 700 Classic in 7x57, and compressed loads are common in it.
The 308, the 7-09, even the 30-06 often use loads that must be compressed a bit.

I have never worried about it, but there have been powders that do not like being
compressed. One I remember was [now obsolete] Hodgdon's H205.
If you compressed it, the results became erratic, velocity [and pressure] wise. Dave.

I have had some odd clumping with D4064 occasionally.

30 some years ago was working up a load 6.5x55 that was almost full to the case mouth. It seamed way off but a couple of books had the same loade. It was ok with a heavy crimp to hold the bullet in.

Tried reloading 308 wins, and lee says start with 43 grains. This seems to fill it to the neck too high with IMR 4064. It also says can go as high as 47 grains. I think 47 wouldn't even fit in shell. Am I missing something? I compared powder weight with lee scale vs my digital scale, and they are both dead on. So my weight isn't the issue.

If this should happen to me - I would fill the case then place my index finger on the (where the bullet goes in) and tap the shell on a table or something similar to make the powder settle in
