44-40 ammo

can you still get 44-40 ammo is it just hard to find or is it called something else there is a model 94 for sale and I am in the market for something different then the old 308 ,30.06's but ammo must be available

44-40 is still around. Also called 44 Winchester Center Fire. Its not too difficult to find but not as common as the standard 22/308/12 guage. Your best to reload with the cost of factory ammo.

cowboy action ammo is available, in the brown box, with lead bullets, runs around 30- 35 a box of 50. The winchester stuff with jacketed bullets has gone through the roof, last one I saw was almost sixty bucks a box! At those prices, the stuff can rot on the shelf forever! And it's not hard to reload for it, but costly to start out.
The cowboy stuff runs around 750 fps out of my 5 1/2 inch revolvers. And very accurate!

I agree the price is just short of outrageous, but isnt that $60 stuff the John Wayne Comemerative Stuff in the Fancy Silver/Gold embossed box?
Check your local gun shows, there is usually a guy there with mega rounds of various calibers where you could start your reloading hobby

Yep, .44-40 ammo is available. Winchester and Hornady load it. Cheap, it ain't though. Marstar listed it at $53.50 per 50 for 200 grain SP's. $344.00 per 500 for 225 grain RNFP's. Sold out, of course.

The cost of reloading the .44 Wcf. would be a fraction of factory ammo, this cartridge, loaded with a cast bullet prolly represents the greatest disparity between cost of factory vs reloads.
