Hey all...........Given my lack of computer abilities I am unable to find out if the Miroku 44-40 is a .427 bore like the original 44-40 or if they are the same as the new 44 RM at .429.............does anybody know for sure, which it is? Not interested in conjecture, looking for hard factual information. Thanks.

This may be of some use. From Real Guns: "Winchester's Model 1873 Short Rifle". Quote: "SAAMI bullet diameter is 0.427", -0.003"/ +0.0". Current production Winchester groove/bore diameter is 0.4285"/0.4224", which offers the potential of many popular 0.429" bullets".
This mirrors observations from shooters who shoot the 44-40 cartridge in their recent production Uberti rifles, too. Most I am familiar with load 0.429" bullets. As always, the only reliable way to determine which bullet diameter is best suited to your rifle, is to slug the bore.

AMc..........It figures if their 73s are .429 then their 92s will be as well...........I have some soft lead Speers that are 430, so I'll slug it, but just wanted to know what their spec's said. I have some .429, 200 gnrs and lots of .427, 200 grnrs for my original Wins, so I'll try them both but I'm betting the new bores are closer to 429. Still interested if anybody knows the actual spec for the 92 Miroku................

If you load a .429 and it fits in the chamber with no tightness you will not have any problem shooting them and the accuracy will be better than with a looser bullet. You will have more problems if it has the micro rifling of the 92 .44 Mag. Mine would not handle higher velocity lead...

I know a fellow shooter on here who has an original Model 92, 44-40. He got dies for it and purchased 200 grain cast bullets for the "44-40."
He loads them up full tilt and they shoot fine. Hard to prove accuracy, when using the original Winchester sights, but they seem OK.
And by the way, the commercial cast 200 grain bullets he purchased for the 44-40 are marked .429"!
