44-40 shot

Is this stuff still around? Currently manufactured? If so who has it and how much. I'm looking at picking up a shotgun chambered for it but if the ammo is to hard to get I'm gunna pass thanks

It will be hard to get, Even regular 44-40 rounds arnt the easiest to come by

loading shot in brass is simple? I dont know how simple it could be

Resize if necessary, it may not be because you don't need to worry about neck tension,prime, throw powder, seat gas check, fill with shot, seat another gas check, crimp. Anyone can do this.

it's done "all the time " for contenders-that's why there's that special "nozzle" on the end of some barrels- the 44-40 is kind of like a weak 44 mag/44 spcl, so you just load the same way as you do for 44 mag, but with a LIGHTER powder charge- i should imagine that you use the same shotcup, shot, etc- personally, i've never seen the reason for any of the so-called "rat shot" loadings, as the ball itself is pretty close to lead dust- might be good for rattlesnakes, and short range varmint, but a 22 is far more effective- a novelty at best
other than that, follow what ben said- you don't need the shotcup unless you want it- some people say it gives a tighter group

I've even made them by subbing a "card" wad for the gas checks.

t-star,if you've ever shot pigeons inside a building you'd appreciate a round that didn't go through the roof...especially one that stores grain
