Well , I loaded up my first ever batch of 44/40 this weekend and it went very well. I had read a lot on it before diving in , and a common complaint was crushing cases because of the thin walled brass mouths on these.
I am proud to say , after loading 100 rounds , not one ruined case. 50 new star-line brass , and 50 new Winchester brass. Seemed to take a long time though with my old single stage press , but I guess I was going extra slow and careful . I used .429 dia. , 210 grain cast bullets , so had to flare the mouths before seating , then finished off with the Lee factory crimp die. Used a moderate load of Unique powder.
The Whitney Kennedy wants out of the gun locker BAD. Maybe tomorrow we will go for a drive to the range.

Yes they chamber fine. I slugged the bore before I started. I made 3 complete cartridges and stopped . I tried them in the rifle , for chamber fit , then proceeded making the batch. It would be pretty silly to make 100 rounds that wouldn't fit into your gun . LOL

Should you ever decide to use jacketed IMR 4227 is tops.....Speer 200gr Gold Dots........harold

I use 30 thrown grains of triple 7 with excellent results or Titegroup for a smokless load

My Rcbs dies wouldn't crimp they would just push the bullet into the case I use a Lee factory crimp die for smooth loading in the 66 Uberti
