i've had my 500 mag for just under a year now and put 1000 rounds though it, 35 of which were factory rounds. the rest were reloads using 95% cast bullets from 350gr up to the max (for S&W revolvers) 700gr. with my current lead costs it's about 25 cents a shot. i was reloading before i got the gun, but this round is a must to reload, even if you buy high end jacketed projectiles.

here is a picture of a 22lr, 700gr solid, 650gr conical HP, 675gr Penta HP.

Those look pretty bad a$$!!

^^^^ beautiful guns up there that finished 500 is very nice.

As for those bullets I have seen those heavy grains before but my god 1000 rounds and mostly that heavy lead. Wow is all I have to say. Very nice looking to. Lol. Hey you know what I have seen so many times. People stuffing those 700 grain bullets, turning the gun over with the barrel pointing towards there face just to get a good look of that flush look of lead at the end of the wheel.

Haha, I've done that a few times, but with the cylinder open. If I had the extra money I would love to get a magnum research 500 mag because they have a longer cylinder and thus hold more lead :) there was a group buy a few months back for a 847gr mold.

I've got a S&W 500 and a 29 Classic (blued) as well. Fun aren't they! The 500 is also a great conversation starter at the range. It's a hoot watching someone shoot it for the first time!

I say eff the cost, you only live once.

It's expensive to put gas in a big block muscle car, but with that much power you won't mind! :)

Nice guns. I could be wrong, but I don't think 50 AE can be used in a 500 magnum.

Ya, you're not even supposed to reload .50 AE bullets because the jacketing is not strong enough to withstand the pressure of the 500 Mag.
Swelling of the bullet can cause premature wear in the force chamber.
Casting one's own bullets for the 500? That's living dangerously!

I am curious why do you think casting for the 500 is dangerous?

Are you high? He was referring to shooting 50AE in the 500 S&W Revolver, just like you can shoot 454 Casull in the 460 S&W Revolver.

Hornady 500 S&W is loaded with an XTP MAG bullet, same as for 50AE.

As for casting for the 500, I would love to hear your explanation as to why "That's living dangerously!"

What source did you read that from? Jacketed is jacketed.

As I posted before I've shot 1000 rounds of cast through mine without issue. The original owner did too, I was the first to put jacketed through it.

What you will /can have issues with is lead through the desert eagle and blocking up the gas ports with lead.

Here are a few more to look at. The bottom one is a 500 S&W and the top one is a S&W 460

In this picture the top one is a S&W model 29 and the bottom one is a S&W model 629

The last picture are two Dan Wesson's one is a 6 inch and the other is an 8 inch
