Where can a fellow get ahold of some 44 colt brass?

According to Donnelly's The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions, .44 Colt can be made from .44 Magnum, by trimming to length of 1.10", reducing rim diameter to .483", and thinning rim from the front to .045" - .047" if necessary.

Ive got some 44 mag cases and some 44 spl cases as well...im making a special load for one of my antiques. What im interested in is that 44 colt stamp on the base.

Haveing a Case with 44 Special or 44 mag marked on it is not a problem from a legal aspect if thats your only concern.
as 44 specail or 44 mag are not on the NO list!

like alot of 455 webs are converted to 45 acp and are still considerd perscribed antiques.



I thought 44 Colt was Smaller in case DIA than 44 mag or russian,
thats what i have seen in my books is this not so?

Not a legal issue...Just looking for a few cases for sh#ts and giggles. I can use the 44 spl cases just fine...and the 44 mags have to be shortened. The info i have puts the 44 colt case at .456 dia. and the 44spl/mag at .457 dia.

maybe my info is incorrect...

what does the info in your books say?

It just said somewhere that the 44 colts are smaller in Dia than 44 russian and they are according to your book.
I dont think you would notice the diffrence tho.

I wonder if starline 44 colts are .001 smaller than say 44 russian.

I might order 50 or so just for the sake to have them around.

I buy all my Cases from track the wolf seems the best price and there good people to deal with.

44 S&W Russian .457 dia
44 Spec .457 dia
44 S&W American .440 dia
44 Mag .457 dia
44 Colt .456 dia
and just for comparison...442 RIC .450 dia
