Ben 51 gr of r-l #7 ? dam i'm deffintaly intrigued .What kind of psi signs where you getting? I have one of the original G.G.'s (magnaported) so I have always found re-coil very manageable, Guess that will be tested as I creep up from 44 gr.,I have read about guys using 48 grains but nothing even close to 51.Going to try the 44's tommorow morning.

I load 43gr of Reloder7 under 405 gr gas checked bullets. I get about 1725-1750 fps out of my guide gun. Velocity was a bit lower with the 405gr Rem bullet. Be a little careful of Reloder7 data as there is a lot of data around for the Hercules version of Re7. When Alliant bought them the powder changed a bit. You need 3-4 gr less powder to achieve the velocities listed for the old loads. I found that out by accident using data from the 3rd edition of the Cast Bullet Handbook. I got nearly max velocity at just over the minimum load.

thought my book showed a bit higher pressures as well .
although,
sent a few down range this morning -recoil was no where near what i was expecting,moderate at best with no primer poping or any leakage.I will deffinatly start creeping up .next batch will go in increments to 46 gr.

I have been loading 48gns of Alliance RL-7 behind a 405 bullet @ 1850fps in a GG for a number of yrs now. Been killing deer stone dead & would probably be a good recipe for moose too!

I'm of a similar opinion. However, everybody else should stick to SAAMI specs.
None of the above loads will show any pressure signs. I load with RE-7 for my Ruger #3 for 400 gr jacketed bullets and I will not disclose the powder charge, lets just say you can't get any more in the case and seat a bullet on it... It is a load out of an older speer manual that I have been using for about 20 years now. Even with this load there are no pressure signs of any sort visible and some of my brass has seen 20 firings without any splitting.
From this experience I would strongly advise against trying to increase the load until pressure signs occur, as they probably aren't going to show in this cartridge until it is too late....

Ben, this doesn't jibe with the major loading article with Marlin rifles, as published in the August, 2007 issue of Hanloader.
Under the "Pressure that does not exceed 28,000Cup," they show 415 bullet, 44 grains of RL7, vel. 1735.
