Hi, anyone out there use 300 gr 44 mag sp in their rifle. On the Sierra box it says pistol only. Any input would be appreciated.

As just a helpful reminder...44 mag. ammo is very hard to come by at the wholesale level right now. If you are not reloading then buy up all you can if you find even just OK pricing. Our new stuff (all suppliers) coming in is going up almost like rim fire ammo. Phil.

Yup, 44mag 300gr does not properly feed out of the Chiappa Alaskan, they DO fit in the tube, but its very hard to get them to feed on a lever cycle into the action.

I also know that in some books certain loads aren't recommended for rifles because the bullet may not have enough giddyup to make it out of a longer barrel

Just outta curiosity, should I expect the same with .454 Casull?

Sumack, you don't say what rifle you have. Apparently Marlin levers don't like 300 gr. due to the twist rate, quite aside from any feeding issues. (Apparently people have bugged Marlin about this quite a lot but to no avail.) I have shot 270 gr. FP Hornady out of mine- reloads, over a stiff dose of H110 and they were OK. Those bullets are intended for the 444 Marlin but according to Hornady, they'll expand if propelled to 1500 fps. When I fired one into wet phonebooks at 25 yds. it mushroomed nicely to about .675 as I recall.

Thanks for the heads up Phil is it the same for .357?

I do have a Winchester 94 and I did reload one and tried to cycle it, and it loaded just fine no issues at all.
