Need advice/help. I shoot mostly lead hand cast or bought from my ruger and s&w, they are reasonably accurate. Always have a supply of plated bullets to clean the leading from the barrel.
Sold the s&w and now the ruger seems to not like the plated as they are tumbling?? The books seem to indicate that the diqameter of the bullet should be .430 but the ones I have are measuring .427.
Can someone measure a plated bullet and confirm this measurment? I hate to think that the barrel is shot out on my ruger.
I also shoot these in a handi rifle with the same result, lead ok plated tumble. It is very noticable in the rifle, not so much in the ruger the sound of the shot is vastly different too.
 
The critical dimension for accuracy in a revolver is that the bullet matches the chamber throat diameter, rather than the bore diameter. If your bullet is undersized, accuracy will suffer. You might also have better luck shooting heavier longer bullets in you gun than a shorter lighter one, as the long bullet centers more easily in the bore. I'm using 325 gr WFNs which measure .88" long and which have proven to be very accurate in a number of gun's I've shot it in (S&W M -29, and Ruger RH, SRH, SBH and Vaquero).

I hope it is a good micrometer you are using to ascertain the bullets diameter, and not an electronic gadget.
