Well here we go, I need advice on a good solid bullet for what else, bear defense!!!

The application for the ATC is sent and I want to start loading some "defense" rounds for my .44 mag. So what do you think, 300gr hard cast or will 300 gr Hornady XTP's do?

Id want penetration at any angle, so hardcast would be my pick. something heavy too, as its gonna be a close shot :)

dont you have an SKS with a reddot scope for bear defense? :D

300gr or larger hardcast. Make sure you shoot the load alot, so you can put them where you need them.

Jacket bullet= Speer 300 ........Cast 300+ WFN(Wide Flat Nose)....don't get a Tapered nose bullet in cast.....
You mite as well take up casting...Get the LEE catalog....they have the perfect 300gr.WFN mold for the .44......plus all the other stuff you need to get started on the cheap.....A friend stopped/killed a charging grizz (one shot) with his Red Hawk and a LBT 300gr WFN similar to the LEE bullet.....:)

300 gr. XTP loaded with 20 gains of H4227 made short work of a deer last fall. Almost went through the deer, (was at 45 yards (approx)), fully expanded, and quite a mess in the lungs and heart region. It was shot from a rifle, but I imagine that it wouldn't be bad in a handgun niether

How about some opinions from people who use 44mags for their ATC in grizz country?

I'm interested too.
