Looking for advice on 44 mag hunting ammo ( factory ammo as I dont reload yet ). The rifle will be for deer while dogging and shots will be within 70 yards. The rifle I will be using is a Rugee 96/44, from what I have read they have issues feeding the leverevolution rounds ( only read, haven't tried any yet).

I'm a fan of the .44 magnum for hunting, I own / have owned and hunted with ruger 77/44, Ruger .44 carbine, Ruger 96/44, winchester 94 (in .44) and Chiappa Alaskan.

I hunt exclusively with Hornady Leverevolution 225gr. Feeds and cycles fine in all of em. My 96/44 liked it, there is no reason you will have feeding issues with the 96/44 and this ammo. Me and my two buddies have taken 5 deer so far with it, all complete pass throughs with massive exit wounds. Good accurate ammo with devastating impact power.

Hi DTM5, have you had any thoughts on putting a sling on your chiappa Alaskan? I'm wondering about installing a saddle ring and using a single point sling.

Scrummy

If a ring is what you want go for it . But a three point would be much better ( comfortable) for carrying across the chest , or a two point for over the Shoulder carry . A ring carry would Orientate the rifle flat , and depending the barrel lenght off center out of balance . Saddled ring was used to loop over a saddle horn or securite in a scabbard .
