I have a 44 Henry Rifle and was wanting the same calibre in revolvers my question is what revolvers that are suitable for CAS are available in the 44 mag.I will be using 44 special loads.
Another question is are adjustable sights allowed or used in CAS I ask this question because the Blackhawks seem to be commonly available.

Depends on the individual organization. Most clubs follow S.A.S.S. rules. A Henry Big Boy and Ruger Blackhawks with adujstable sights might start you off in Modern Class.

To shoot Traditional (or its equivilant), you would need revolvers with fixed sights. Some clubs would let you use a Big Boy. I believe the club I shoot with - Saskatchewan Association of Wild West Shooters - follows what I've heard called the "Seven Feet" rule. If it looks OK from seven feet, then it is allowable.

Thanks I will check with our local guys I am leaning to the 44 revolver just because I have the rifle in that calibre, I would like to keep it more traditional but did not see much in the way of fixed sights in 44

The modern category in SASS is no more. It was dropped in 2009.

Blackhawks can be used in all categories except Classic Cowboy, Gunfighter and the blackpowder categories.

SASS categories lean towards age based sub divisions but not in all cases. To get the right info without me cramping up my old fingers go to www.sassnet.com and have a look at the main page and click on SASS Handbooks.

Your rifle is the Henry Big Boy in 44 mag and is legal in all categories except Classic Cowboy where you have to shoot a toggle link( model 60,66,73) in 40 caliber or larger and 38/40 is 40 caliber.

Blackhawks are good guns for SASS.

The first shot fired in a SASS match twenty five plus years ago was from a Blackhawk in
30 carbine.

Shooting 44 special is a good way to go. Hell Dirty Harry shot 44 specials. He said so in the movie with the young motorcycle cops.

I've been shooting Cowboy action with Ruger Old style Vaqueros in .44 mag for over 12 years now. Great guns, one of my pistols has an excess of 20,000 rds through it.

I started with a .44 Mag, shooting .44spl. but I found locating the ammo and brass was an issue, so I switched to .45Colt.
Easier to find .45Colt, loaded ammo or bullets around here, from Wolf Bullets.

Thanks on my first look around I have not seen the Vaqueros in 44 mag being offered. Can you still get them?

44 mag Ruger Vaqueros have been discontinued and are only found on the used market. The New Vaqueros are not made in 44 mag or 44 special.

Maybe some gunshop has some 44 Vaqueros on a dusty shelf somewhere but who knows.

Uberti makes Cattlemen in 44 special but are not usually stocked and are a special order.

As previously mentioned, Old style Vaqueros come up for sale on the EE occassionally. .44 Spl brass is no problem out west, either Wholesale Sports or your nearest gun show will have them.

44 mag for CAS

I am currently using 44mag superblackhawk and a marlin lever in 44 mag. I have been using them for a couple of years and they work fine. Like was mentioned though, it depends on your local club as to weather or not they are following the SASS regulations. Our club has a "bring what you got" policy so everyone can come and have fun. The only thing we are strict about is the ammo choice (for obvious safety reasons).

If you decide to go with the 44 and have questions dont hesitate to ask and I'll answer what I can

I treasure the 44 Vaquero. Had a custom action job. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE MORE BEFORE PRODUCTION ENDED.

WITH 200 OR 240 CAST IT IS WONDERFUL. SEEMS BETTER BALANCED THAN THE UBERTI 45'S.
wILL BE USING TRAILBOSS NEXT LOAD SESSION. I was able to get a real Winchester saddle ring in 44 before they stopped production Both are accurate way out and past 50 yards.

The Ruger Forum has a report that the New Vacquero will be offered in 44 special with a release date late May.

Many cowboys are hoping for the gun in 44/40.

They may take a while to reach the Great White North.

just be prepared for STICKER SHOCK on that brass- it's actually cheaper to buy 44 mag and shorten it, or at least it was- esp wsl
