Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question. I am thinking of hunting with my 1894 in .44 mag. I don't know what ammo to use for hunting though. I am just looking to see what factory ammo would be best for deer as I do not reload. If anyone can help with any suggestions, it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I've shot deer with both remington 240gr. JSP and hornady lever-evolution 225gr., both deer died with one shot to the heart/lung area. It should be noted however that both deer were shot inside 10-15 yards so I'm sure any 44 mag load would have ended with the same result. :D

just don't get the 44 that comes in 20 round packs- it's a first class GYP- you can buy 50 rounds for almost the same money and the SAME LOADS- the ONLY difference is the packaging- just check the bullet weights and velocities and you'll see they are IDENTICAL- the WORD "hunting" doesn't make it so- this applies at least to remington ammo

I use American Eagle 240 gr JSP, they shoot very well from my 1894 and in my 31 yrs of east coast hunting I've never had to shoot a deer over 60-70 yds away so I figure I'm good to go
