Oh yeah, the .454 Casull, all it needs is the towbar and wheels.

I dont quite understand responses like this one. Did you actually read the post or just the title of it? What is your post in response to? And what part of this post reminds you of the wannabe's at the range?

There is no doubt about the capabilities of a 45 colt loaded to 44 mag pressures, but I have had to buy factory ammo when in the field, so for that practicality I would stick to the 44

I allready know my choice but would like to here your opinions on which calibre you would choose and why.

So how does his post answer the question? Did he say which calibre he would choose in his post, maybe I missed it. I am pretty sure he just read the title and then posted away. :rolleyes:

Just gets a litte annoying sometimes.

I know I have room in my gun safe for both, as they each have their own strengths and uses

So do you have a double action .45 colt? I have both as well but my Colt SAA can not be loaded the same as a Ruger can, single or double action.
 
^ This is true. For what it's worth I'm a traditionalist, so I like my .45LC's in SAA and my DA's in 44mag or similar.

However, I would like to try a hot 45LC DA sometime. But I wouldn't buy one.


So, short answer - if it were me, and my gun, I'd leave it 44 mag/
 
Leave it as it is?? What fun is that, how are we to progress without experimentation. I wish Ruger would offer the Redhawk in .45Colt, they do have it in the Super Redhawk, but man what an ugly gun! I think Crazy Davey ain't so crazy, check this out, the perfect outdoor self defence pistol, much like crazy's. I just wish Ruger would make the same gun, can't afford a custom one like this.

lol.....yup its heavy even with the 4.25" barrel. But the 454 Casull is sooooo much more powerfull then the .44 mag and the .45 LC is a great cartridge far as versatility goes. In my opinion its one of the best bear defense firearms you can buy just because of the ability to practice with juiced up 45 Colt rnds and carry six .454 Casull rnds. The .45 LC is the way to go better yet .454 Casull :)
 
Quick off topic question is the blackhawk action not strong enough to handle the 454 casull? If it is why do they not make one? I like the idea of shooting 45 colt and have the option to shoot the casull.

Ya but Elmer hardly had anytime left on this earth to play with Rugers newer very heavy built double action revolvers. The revolvers he was dealing with in his years, were nowhere near what they are today. Oh ya, its Elmer not Almer ;) :D
