44 Mag Questions

I am looking into getting a marlin lever action rifle in 44 mag. I was wondering what kind of game can i hunt with this rifle? and how is it compared to a .223 round?

The two couldn't be any more different, for hunting purposes, one is a long range varmint cal. the other is a short range big game caliber. In most areas the .223 is not legal or ethical to use on big game, and the .44 mag. can be used on game as big as Moose with the proper handloads.

You can get some handloads moving pretty well, and although range is slightly limited, you can do alot with your own loads.

If you are looking for something in a factory load try to find some LEVERevolution ammo as it is supposed to be more like what you want.

I have killed 2 Moose.. 3 black bear.. 4 Range bulls ( For a Farmer), With a Trapper Model 94...Load.. 22gr 2400 Powder ..240gr hornady sil bullet..Federal Cases..CCI 300 Primer.....Longest shot 50 yards ...All died with 1 shot.
