There really isn't an equivalent. The M19 is a K frame 357, which is the smallest frame that will take a 357. Some would argue that it's too light for sustained 357 fire. The 44 mag has always been built on the N frame, which is much larger and heavier.the 44 is the M29,or 629 if you like stainless. Ruger's, Dan Wesson's and Colt Anacondas are bigger and heavier yet.

Yep, you'll be wanting an N frame'd 29 or 629 depending on your aesthetics and desire to own the same gun that Harry Calahan owned. er... that would be the BLUED 29 in case you're wondering.... 
I've bought enough guns for a while but at some point in the next year I want to get a .44Magnum. But I will do this knowing that the best way to get the most out of such a gun is to reload my own. The recipes for .44 loads cover the entire range from mild to wild and from low flash hunting to major flash "splash and flame" rounds that maximise the WOW! factor.
Hint, H110 powder pushes more than smacks the hand and produces the biggest and most satisfying fireball and cylinder gap flash you can imagine. And if my own one time chronograph check is any indicator the velocity isn't really affected all that much by this relatively slow burning powder. But do not in any circumstance underload to try to reduce the power. This powder is volume sensative and if loaded to less than the stated minimums can actually cause a pressure spike that is far higher than intended and can actually be higher than the SAAMI maximum for the max loads. If you want to seriously short load to get .44Spl performance than choose some other powder that is tolerant of being light charged.

The 44 is like a 357 for grownups.
As others have said the large frame S&W is a 29 or a 629.
If you end up shooting it much and you don't reload you will probably start. I have had good results for plinking loads with Universal Clays and IMR 4227 for full house loads. For plinking I buy bulk cast 240 grn bullets in 1000 lots.
It's a great round and a great revolver - you won't regret it.

If you have a 12.6 PAL, you could look for a 4" M-29 Mountain Gun. This is a much trimmed N frame round butt M-29, and is said, like the K frame M-19, not to like a steady diet of full powered ammo. I would prefer a more resilient piece, but if light weight is important, this is the one to find.

I once had a very nice Model 29 .44 Mag six inch barrel in presentation case. Very accurate wheelguns.
Then I discovered the Model 57 in .41 Magnum and a whole other love affair started....

Other than "forcing" one to get into reloading I love the 44MAG round.
Mild to wild and everything in between. IMHO, it's the "reasonable" big bore handgun caliber choice.
While there are bigger and faster rounds out there (454 Casul, 460 and 500) the versatility and availability of the 44MAG wins out.
Besides, there are few guns better looking than a S&W Model 29
