You can make .44 Mag cases from either .30-40 Krag or .405 Win but I imagine if .44 Mag is hard to find then those are too!
As to wildcats - there is the .44/06. Same length as the .44 Mag but it would be rimless.

In doing research for the .445 Supermag I'm come across information saying that .303 Brit can be used. But it does require some work.
Because the 303 brass body will be thicker he'll have to inside ream the case mouth once its been cut to length. The case rim is also thicker, so to avoid headspace issues, he'll likely have to thin it.
For these reason the 30-40 Krag may be a better option - But because the 303 can pretty much be found anywhere in the world, I figured I'd let you know of that option.
Oh and unless he gets / has a set of expander dies, he'll have to fire form them.

Thanx for the suggestions guys. I thought I'd ask here to see if there might be an easy solution which I'm just not aware of but it looks like my friend is just going to have to part with the $$ and import.
Mailing brass to the Philippians apparently isn't an option and if it were that simple I'd just bring him some as he works on my crew. Traveling through Asia with even brass casings is a big no no, however, and penalties can be rather severe.
