44 Magnum handguns

silverfoxdj and DocBurN, thanks guys. The firearms enjoyment comes from a number of points of focus. The shooting and hunting with, reloading for and discussions with others having similar tastes and interests.

i judge my Rossi Ranch Hand as i would the desert eagle.. seem to be a novelty gun.. not the most practical lightweight survival home defence bear killer gun on the market.. ;)

My rossi is too short to be a rifle... too long to be an handgun .. some people will tell you its a useless gun.. i dont care, its fun too shoot! (also i bought it since its the shortest non-restricted legally carryable in the woods in canada with is 24" OAL that defy the canadian gun laws of 26").. same reason why i will get a desert eagle too in 44 magnum some day (its not gonna be right now.. but i am a gun enthusiast and collectionner... i will have a DE in my safe.

Lol, yep the desert eagle isn't practical in any sense. It's a curiosity, a range toy. Americans hunt with them, albeit with the longer barrels from what I've gleaned from videos and articles. But even then, I think it's just because they can. One thing I find funny is in "music", rappers say they pack a desert eagle. That's how you know they've never even picked one up. A finicky, seven shot, seven pound, half inch hole punching, blinding muzzle flash producing, conversation piece is the last thing you'd want dragging down your already saggy pants, if you're facing incoming fire from "homies" with 17 round magazines.

Although, not completely true about not being a survival tool. It would make an okay portable parts department, a not bad nut cracker (place them in the chamber, and release the mammoth slide) , and probably not a bad hammer. Oh, and a solid boat anchor.

Johnn, I need to butter you up on the slim chance that someday I'll get to buy one of your guns lol

I haven't made any efforts to actually collect. My focus has been on acquiring 'stuff' I want to use. Shooters, but there have been a very few that were put up for adoption because of a considerable decrease of use. A few people have expressed an interest in some of what I have and one day, perhaps it will be something I'll be ready to consider,;) but not yet.

I think for practical carry a 4" Smith N frame in 41 or 44, or a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk in the same calibers would be the best choices. I have samples of all, and they would all be fairly easy to pack, and more accurate then most shooters. FWIW - dan

No arguement here:D. With the 4 5/8" Ruger, here's another possibility for consideration. A SS convertable, in 45 LC/45 ACP that I acquired at a local gun show a couple of years back.

Well let me pipe up. If money is no object, find a 5" Anaconda in .44 and the rest pale away.

My 4' 29 will always be my favorite and I think I told you previously about a deal I had made on an Anaconda. A little bit of double dealing by a 'friend' so I lost out on that one. Oh well, one day.

In the early 70's at the end of a visit with Elmer Keith:D in Salmon Idaho, as I was preparing to depart, I had Elmer pose for a quick photo by my truck:).

A short while back, I decided to get a holster for my 4" 29, the same as what he has in the above photo. From discussions on my visit and from info in his books, I knew it was made by Milt Sparks so I googled them, sent the above photo and made an inquiry about obtaining a reproduction.:( 'Apparently' to meet safety and liability concerns, there had been a slight change to the design, as below.

I made a special request for a closer replica of what Keith had and they obliged:D with the following.

As to the exact model, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what it is. Best I can suggest is to check out their site and send them an e-mail.

Thanks for the info!
