44 Magnum revolver. Which one to buy?

I just got dan wesson 44 mag blued and am in love. Was going with a smith and wessonbut kept getting bit by the handguard frame with full power loads. Some reason the dan doesnt kick as much.its a tank and you can change barrel lengths

I am kind of spoiled only because I own three different 44 magnum handguns: 629 DX Classic 5 inch round butt, a Colt Anaconda 6 inch and DW Model 44 with 8 inch full shroud. I guess I did miss out on a Blackhawk with 7.5 inch barrel, however the accurate and reoil absorbing DW more than makes up for it.

Cheers

Not a good match aesthetically to your lever gun but the Super Blackhawk Hunter's have a nice heft to them that absorbs a fair amount of the recoil.

I have a Super Blackhawk that I like, but I’m wanting more BANG! Maybe not for most, but after more than 1K full loads it doesn’t have the pop so much anymore.

I currently have a S&W 629 5" and love it. I used to have a Ruger SBH 5.5", loved the gun but got sick of it shredding my fingers up with the square trigger guard. I recently shot a friends SBH with the round trigger guard and loved it.... might be buying another one. My advice is to stay away from the square trigger guards

Hey folks. wich grip configuration do you prefer? The bisley grip or the plow grip on a Blackhawk. I'm very interested in a Blackhawk but i don't knows what is the best for target shooting. Maybe i'm wrong but i think the 44 magnum is too much powerful for the plow grip because the revolver will roll up too much in the hand.

I haven’t tried the Bisley grip but many find it more comfortable and controllable for shout recoil apparently.

I did have a 4 5/8” SBH with the regular plough handle. It definitely rolled in the hand but it was very comfortable to shoot compared to a 4.2” 629. My only complaint is that Ruger uses the smaller standard Blackhawk grip frame for the short barrelled (4 5/8” and 5.5”) SBHs. I would prefer the larger grip frame used on the 7.5” SBH, specifically the Hunter version that does not have the squared Dragoon style trigger guard.

You can buy different grip frames as aftermarket options in the US easily enough but I have not been able to source them in Canada

The plowhandle is perfectly fine with the hottest 44 mag loads. Maybe it's the way I grip the Blackhawk but he just rolls up in my hand under recoil. I can shoot hot 240 Hornaday XTP's all day in my SBH 7.5" Hunter.

Need a little help.
Can I get some input from you guys on the 44 magnum revolvers?

Got a henry lever and it needs a companion.

Thanks Gents.

Do you reload? If you do I think that it opens up more possibilities and you can tailor all the good advice you're getting from others to your situation.

The Super Redhawk is a bit heavy but the weight is welcome for soaking up recoil of full power loads.

The S&W 629 is a bit of a classic and I hate beating mine up so loads can be "gentler".

I agree, the Super Blackhawk Hunter is the best plow handle grip size for my hands and it should be an easier to get option for any of the Blackhawk's.

Definitely a handful to shoot with little grips and 4 5/8 barrel call it the "turrets" 44
