Last night at the indoor pistol range, I had a particularly good session at the club range. Using my Dan Wesson 44 and 240 grain full house loads.

I noticed no-one else was shooting a magnum of any type, but there was a plefora of Glocks in 9mm there. No malice in this statement, just what was there...

So, I know there is a healthy population of .44 magnum CGN shooters out there!
Lets hear your best range results with whatever 44 mag? T/Cs, revolvers DA and SA, even Desert Eagles and such?

Favorite loads, 44 spec, lite 44 mag, or heavy cast/copper jacketed???
Farthest range too please?? (silohouette shooters!!)

I have no fantastic shooting records, but my S&W 629 shoots lovely with 22.5 gr of 2400 behind a 200gr Frontier CMJ (Winchester Brass). I had a few first-timers come over and watch, after they had been shooting some 9mm. 44 Mag sure does make a statement with that blast.
 
7.5 grs Unique under 240 grs lead...
This light load keeps my 9.5inch Super Redhawk hitting a 5X5inch steel plate all day long (at 100 meters)...
It is a bit messy, however it is very accurate and easy to shoot...

PS: the Ruger is equipped with a 4Xpower Pistol Scope

About 16 grains of SP-85 surplus powder (Higginson's) behind a lead 240 grain FN bullet does well for me. But the trigger bites my index finger sometimes...a band-aid after a shooting session proves you had fun :)
 
For both revolver and rifle, 328gr. WFN Gc cast hard, or 290gr.LFN Pb cast hard and 20.5 and 21.5grs of H-110 respectively. I've used these two for hunting so much that anything lighter in the .44 mag. seems inadequate.
 
At the moment I have two. A 4" S&W model 29 with factory S&W ivory magna grips and an old 6 1/2" Ruger 'Flattop' with Ruger factory staghorn grips and a custom trigger job.
Being an Elmer Keith fan and using a bullet of his design, the #429421 lyman 250gr SW;
- For heavy loads, 22grs of 2400
- For target loads, 8.5grs of Unique
- Light plinking or gallery loads, 5grs of Bullseye
The 'Man' was a front runner in the field and knew his stuff, not only his loads but also his bullet design. I've found his loads to be accurate and bullet design weight to be optimum. I feel in exceeding this weight and you start passing the point of diminishing returns. If you find you need more bullet weight, go to a bigger gun.
 
ruger redhawk 7.5- right now i use a "pussy" load of 8.5 of 231 under a 240 lswc, but it literally shoots clovers 10-25 yards
 
I have a SS Redhawk 5.5 that is new to me so I'm not that proficient with it yet. I've been shooting 180 gr Hornady XTPs over 9.0 grs of Unique for target shooting.

And the only gun in 44 magnum that I shoot on a regular basis. My cowboy action rifle. :redface:

800-x is on the fast burning side to be the ultimate magnum handgun powder, that title goes to H-110/WW296 (same thing).
 
Hodgdon Lil-Gun maybe an new powder to look at in the 44mag.

I am using it for my heavy cast loads in my 454 Casull's and it is awesome.
 
I like 7.5 of unique and 240 lead swc as a fun popper in my Super Blackhawks and win 94 rifle. Generally go just under max with unique and a JHP. Fun,Fun, Fun.
 
Used to have a S&W Model 29 6" blued .44 Mag and also had a Winchester Legacy full rifle and a Ruger 77 in it. No longer have any of the above.

My favourite 'magnum' wheel gun is a MD Charlton tuned S&W Model 57 6" blued in the venerable .41 Magnum... ;)
 
My favorite revolver cartridge for more than 25 years....S&W family includes ``first year production`` 6 1/2, a few 4 inchers, and a few others. No pipe lenght barrels as a 4 inch will hold it's own at longer ranges...

Into ``long range`` hangunning since 2003. Yes a big fan of Keith. My best 29 (a blued 4 inches 29-3, 1990 production) does 2 inches / 100 yds and 4 1/2 at 150yds (could do better...) All of'em are doing cloverleafs at 25yds.

Classic load of Keith cast w/ 22gr 2400....A side note on grips: get some that fits you as they are essential to good shooting....First series ``coke bottle`` S&W has a nice fit for me...
