.44 Magnum Winchester USA Brand?

I have a box of Winchester USA Brand .44 Magnum 240 grain jacketed soft points.

I would like to make reloads that mimic these as closely as possible.

Exactly how much powder is in one of these cartridges?

Haha, that's weird I just finished watching season 4 of Dexter two minutes ago...

From what I understand, ammo manufacturers load their ammo with powder that isn't available to reloaders. So the amount of powder in those cartridges wouldn't really tell you much. My only advice is either to go on feel alone by working up your own load, or better yet to chrony some of those Winchester loads and use that info to guide your load development.

i've read the same thing actually, apparently they get there own special blend of powder

when i was trying to duplicate factories for my 357 i asked around for what was a good powder to use, then started low and worked my way up, paying attention to make sure there were no signs of over pressure once i got the load nice and hot

i dont own a chrony but if i did i probably would have taken Cerdans advice there

What they say about the factories not using powder available to the public is generally right.
However, in the case of the 44 magnum, I think I once read that Winchester developed their 296 powder for the 44 and the load in their loading charts was the same charge as the factory loadings, 24 grains of W296.

Simply reload to book maximum loads using H110 or 296 powder and you will be so close as to not tell the difference.
