.44 Remington Magnum?

Beautiful round. If you can find a 4.2" redhawk, they handle full house rounds comparible to the 5" S&W (IMHO). But the 5" S&W is a beaut too! .357 to .44 is a reasonable jump, you will love it

I do reload. I used H-110 in my .357 and plan on using it in .44 mag.
 
22 gr of Littl'gun, WLP, behind them 270 gr Speer Gold dot sure got some heavy torque, and highly accurate, one of my pet load... JP.
 
Don't over look the Ruger single action 44 magnums. I own a 29-2 and a 629-3 Classic DX and prefer shooting my Ruger Super Blackhawk. I highly recommend the 7.5" Hunter in Stainless. A beautiful revolver and a joy to shoot power loads with.
 
For all who suggested 44 special ammo to tame the heavy recoil, remember the OP is upgrading from 357mag not from 38 special.
Yes, the 44 mag recoil is punishing. Shot follow-up is slow if at all.
Is it bad-ass? Why yes it is!
Can you shoot it as much as the 357 mag? Well, no, you can not. (whoever says they can is lying)
 
Love my 29, it shoots like a laser beam.

I shoot mostly 44spl. I bring out 44mag ammo to give guests the option to try it. Only, if they want to try it.

I tell you right off from the start, I am a S&W N frame shooter/collector, but if you want to shoot alot of heavy loads, get a Ruger SIngle action or Redhawk, they can take a beating better than a Smith can, though i love the Smiths better!
I love shooting 44 special, but a couple cylinders of 44 mag is about all i care to shoot?
Smith has a handy dandy L frame 5 shot, matte stainless 4.25" barrrel that would be a perfect gun for the range and for those who carry for work in the bush. I think would take a steady diet of 44 SPl at the range and load up for carrying in the bush without getting in your way like an N frame?
This is the gun a SHOTSHOW that really surprised me! If you are smaller stature, this gun will fit you well.Compact and comfortable!

My first gun was a 9mm 2nd (few months later) was a .44mag. If you want it get one, try shooting it first tho to make sure you like the kick.

ditto.... When it comes to shooting 44magnum my go to is the Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter 7.5"bbl. Looks great and shoots straight!

I find the porting of the raging bull to be a bit much when it comes to concussive shock. I can shoot the Redhawk and super redhawk comfortably but the Taurus tends to 'ring my bell'! There's no way I would ever consider firing the Taurus with plugs or muffs only. I look at it as a dirty little 'ho.....double protection is a must.
 
Since you reload, go for it. I never found it worth while to use 44 Special ammo when you can just reload lighter 44 Mag ammo and then not bother with having 2 kinds of "44" brass.
 
A cool experiment if you have a .357 loaded with .38 target loads along with your 44: fire 6 of the full house 44 magnum as accurately as it allows, then immediately pick up that 38 and you will put all 6 in such a small hole you will frame that target! Whatever recoil you might have thought the 38 has just vanishes in quick comparison with the 44, its like your not shooting anything anymore but the holes keep appearing in the target.

I do not carry in the bush, but for all that do for there occupation, like my friends who trap, foresters,and those who work as prospectors, this is just a little advice for a great looking compact carry gun (S&W LFrame 44mag).

I hope you reload. I have a Ruger Redhawk, a Super Blackhawk, a Rossi Ranch Hand, and a Ruger 44 magnum carbine. Love the round.

But if I didn't reload, I could not afford to feed the pistols. And I can make wimp loads for when I want to mess with people. Think about it, less power than a 38 and they are expecting a huge recoil. The facial expressions are worth the work.
