44 spec crimp?? yes or no

I just can not figure it out. Did RCBS ever make a die for 44 mag, only and not able to load (crimp) 44 Special in it?
I think you would have to compare your dies, side by side, with the normal set, to see if there was a difference.
Is there anyone on here who could solve the problem!

It's possible - I loaded 44 mag and .44 spl with RCBS .44 special dies.
Severasl years later i got back into 44 and bought RCBS .44 mag dies - the seater/crimper die was too long to crimp .44 spl cases.

Most makes of dies can interchange between these 2 cartirdges, but not RCBS, or at least the set I had which was 10-15 years ago. The sizing die and the expander die were identical, but the seater die was longer for .44 mag. I figure it's marketing for RCBS, sells more dies that way.

It really sounds like the seat/crimp die is spec'd for .44 mag length only and that you need to trim the bottom of the die off... If you do this it will still work for .44 mag as well... The minimum amount you will have to trim will equal the difference between .44 mag and .44 spcl case length plus about 0.010"...

I have shortened dies for other reasons and I use a zip cut disc in an angle grinder and then carefully file and stone the base square then debur the hole with an india stone... I know a lathe would be better but I don't have one yet!
