Finally got my hands on some for my 629 4.2 inch barrel. It takes the fun factor for that gun and puts in through the roof! Too bad that round isnt more popular.

Im guessing most of you reload for that round.

Yes. I have five of them, two Colts, a SAA and a New Frontier, two S&W's, a 3" 624 and a 6.5" 624 and a Charter Arms snubby. While there are some decent factory loads stateside, we rarely see them here. Get hold of Skeeter Skelton's books with his loads for the 44 Special, you'll never get better advice. - dan

I snagged some factory stuff. Some hornady 180g xtp and some hornady personal defence 165g hollow point with that red rubber stuff in the hollow point cavity. I dont reload so ill send ya the brass when i get it all shot if ya want. I keep my brass and put it right back in the factory ammo box. Hell i can send ya the 44 mag brass too.

Reloading for .44Mag or Spl is the only way to hold down the cost of shooting these. And if you reload you can load up the easier to find .44Mag casings to .44Spl power levels just as easily as you can load it to full power .44Mag levels.

And yes, a good .44Spl or .44Spl loads in Mag brass is great fun. A good firm kick without wrecking our wrists after a box or two.

I LOVE the 44 SPL. One of my US carry guns is a Taurus 44 Special. I love that gun! I have lots of 44 Special ammo in the USA. My favorites are Speer Gold Dot and Hornady Critical Defense. In Canada I have the S&W 629 4.2" and I reload for it. Some heavy. Some light. Its a great gun and fun to shoot. Here is my US 44 SPL.

I'm going to start using 44 spc in my newly acquired 4.2 inch. I don't mind the power of the 44 Mag in the 6 inch mod 29 but in the short one it's a different matter.

I'm going to look for the Hornady when I go over.

Gladly. I'll even pay you for it, lol. - dan

Now that's a CCW package! Are the barrel portings factory?

Save your brass. One day you can visit a friend that loads 44 SPl or Mag (same dies) and reload it all with nice 200 gr SWC lead bullets.

If you put your city on your profile, you might get offers to help you re-load.

I thought of reloading for 44 special, but I have no use for it. I use 5.3g of Aliant E3 powder in the 44mag instead. Makes the gun very fun & easy to shoot, and very accurate. A pound of powder will last forever & so will the brass. Another easy cheap load is 5.2g of Bulleseye powder.

same thing with my 357,..I down load .Its a waste of time doing up 38special. I use 4.4g of E3 powder,..nice accurate easy.
E3 for 38special is 3.8g

44 SPL is all that I run through my 29. I don't see the point of punishing me or my gun with 44 MAG. 44 SPL loads shoot like a laser beam for me.

I keep a couple boxes of 44 MAG on hand for those guests that just have to give it a try.

Any of you loading 240gr berrys in charter arms that would be willing to share a maximum load they're comfortable with. Have read through Brian prince's article on the 44 special but not sure I trust his pressure ratings for the CA.
