444 marlin 280 grain jacketed loads

Was wondering if some of you boys can tell me about some special loads in the 280 grain jacketed class that would be good with Moose Elk etc .I picked up some IMR 4198 and have several powders that I can choose from .The 444 is new to me but seems rather impressive ,any feedback will be appreciated ,

I used the Speer 300gr Uni-core- (Gold Dot now I think), FLATTENED a moose @ 100ish yds, 2100fps. Went through the shoulder blade, 2 ribs and near through the other shoulder blade. Weighed 200.8 grs recovered and you could eat up to the hole. I used H335 max load in the Speer manual . Groups averaged 1.5" 3 shots all day long.
Speer also makes a 270gr Gold Dot and Swift makes a 280 gr A-Frame, I would use any of those bullets and not look back.
 
One thing to bear in mind, if yours is an older rifle with the 1 in 38" twist, you'll have better results the harder you push them. I've had good luck with H-335 as well, IMR 4198 is alright, but not the best accuaracy in my rifle. Most folks really like H-4198, gives a bit more velocity than the IMR.
I haven't used 280gr bullets; 265s work well for me, but the Hornady 300gr XTPs has been the most accurate bullet I've found. One hole groups at 50yds with H-335, A1680 and IMR 4895.
Good luck, you'll have fun with it. I haven't used mine on moose or elk yet, but it sure does a job on whitetails!
