.444 marlin rifles

They don't make em anymore, They've been out of production for 3+ years now.

Might see a reintroduction later this year, but don't hold your breath. There's some nice used ones out there.
 
Out of production for years. They do surface for time to time on the EE. Might even be one there now. Had my sights on one but it sold before I could act.

The big sellers for Marlin are levers in .45/70 and .30/30. They might still make the .450 Marlin if you want something different. As pointed out you may have to look to Pedersoli for new or other makes for used. There's always custom guns but be prepared to pay.
 
They are still in production - Marlin Model 444 (70540) is still very much available, I have just special ordered one for a guy back on the 22nd of December.

Any Canadian Tire that sells firearms can order one of these for you.

Not many are imported in the first place (to the wholesaler that supplies Crappy Tire) but at the beginning of the year you have your best chance of getting one.

Marlin, in addition to the model 444 also builds (currently) a model 444 XLR which has a stainless barrel and receiver.

Check them out on Marlin's website and then find a Marlin dealer in Canada that is willing to actually check the on-line ordering status from the wholesaler.

I even saved the guy an extra 80 bucks on the sticker price because Marlin discounted these for the SHOT Show.

Mind me asking where you work, and how do I "special order" one?

They are not in production. They have not been in production since the 2nd quarter of 2011. The 444xlr along with the 450xlr & 35xlr stopped production back in the first quarter of 2010.

Marlin never stopped taking "orders" on their Out of production PN#'s, but it's more of a wish list than an order placement.
 
I work @ a Can Tire in Kingston, On.

We just placed our SHOT Show order, through our wholesaler, for each of the mfg's that supply to them.

Now, don't know if Marlin stopped them coming off the presses or not and are selling from "stock on hand", but they even listed them up at about an 80 buck discount from their normal wholesale rate to move some. And seriously, why would Marlin send an "availability list" to wholesalers, with discount prices on some items, if they had "no hope" of even filling a few of the orders - don't make sense. My supplier orders from Marlin directly - it's not like you order something from Cabela's because "they hope" that they can get it from their supplier at some point in the future - this "availability" came directly from Marlin.

Here's my "wish list" to Marlin and then the invoice that came from the wholesaler a week later. While there were a number of things on the "wish lists" that did not get invoiced - mostly "new" offerings that either aren't ready yet or not ready to ship to Canada yet, I did get confirmation of/and billing for my order that will be shipped before the end of this month.

PS - if someone want's information that they can take into their local Crappy Tire (if they sell guns), I can give you the numbers etc that you could provide to make their life easier. IF (IF) they participate(or participated) in this years on-line Shot Show they are just getting their first invoices for what they can expect to get. Next week we will get an update of stuff requested that is "not" available with the opportunity to adjust our orders to increase the number we want if "more" are available in a different model etc. My list was shorted by about 40'ish rifles that are not available for shipment.

If the individual store does "not" participate in the program they are at the mercy of anything "left over" at the wholesaler after all the placed orders are filled. In the case of the 444 that I ordered, the customer put that order in at least 4 or 5 months ago and we have been waiting for availability - like a lot of models (870 Rems in particular), if you don't buy your whole years worth "up front" you can't get them later in the season - just nothing left.

Thanks for some background on your claim, that's great if that's the case. Marlin promised the 444 production to be restarted at the 2012, 2013, 2014 shot shows. Every year it was "3rd to 4th quarter of (this) year you'll start seeing em"........

There has been the the odd 338mx showing up.
 
I do know that availability is really hit or miss, particularly with the "less popular/obscure stuff".

I DON'T stock the 444, 35 Rem, 45 Colt and a couple others that have slipped my mind in the Lever Guns because I don't know if they will ever sell or not. I do keep one Mod 1895 45-70 Marlin on hand because I WILL sell one per year on average.

In the case of Crappy Tire, each one is independently owned and IF they carry firearms they are pretty much on their own with the suppliers of - the guns do NOT come through the CTC supply chain network. I deal with five main wholesalers (while approved by CTC Corp, they are un-affiliated in any way). CTC does have a "suggested catalog" of firearms for which they have established a Canadian Tire stock number and the Corp set's the max selling price for (even though they have nothing else to do with the guns).

On other firearms "not in the assortment", I am free to source whatever I want in any quantity I want (within the confines of our firearms licence) and sell them for "whatever" I figure is a fair/competitive price.

So while at "my store" you can come in and "deal" and "special order" that may not be the case in every store. (I personally have taken a very active role because I love all weapons - in other stores it may just be a "part of the sports department")

So if you happen to be "in the neighbourhood" (CTC 694/Division St. in Kingston), stop in if you are looking for something in particular - maybe we can help you out if no-one else can :)

PS - if buddy doesn't come for his rifle when it comes in we will have a Walnut stocked 444 Marlin for sale - can give you a good price :)
 
A little off topic, but it is interesting some of the rifles I've seen show up at CT. I picked up a youth stainless Marlin 22 that's out of production, and the CT here has TC Icons on the shelf (also out of production).
This particular store just started to carry Firearms, so it's not like they were sitting around.

But enough with CT, I'm sure some Site sponsors here can order as well.
 
Yes agree. In fact I buy my ammo, bullets and powder (for the most part) at SFRC. My "loyalty" lies with the best price and service :)
 
More power to you Graham (galamb). If Marlin delivers that's great news that they are producing .444s again. Its good that more CTs are stocking firearms and ammo. Hope it continues.
 
Yes, as legal gun owners I see it as our duty to get as many legal guns into law-abiding owners hands as possible.

Some day we might even come even with the number of "illegal guns" on the streets of our big cities that want to curtail our ownership...
