.445 Super - anyone heard of this round?

A Yahoo net search turns up about 4,850,000 sites for the . 445 Super Mag. It was developed for handgun silhouette shooting. Drives a 240 grain .429" bullet at around 1400fps to 1500fps and a 300 grain bullet at 1300fps to 1350fps. The case, using a shortened .444, is 3/8" longer than a .44 mag case.
Only Dan Wesson makes/made a production firearm and only Starline makes/made the brass. Lots of recoil and muzzle blast.

"...Sounds like that's pushing it..." The inventor made it for great big revolvers to shoot metallic silhouette's at 200 meters.
Starline says their brass looks just like .45 ACP, it is thicker, stronger(the alloy is stronger) and is specially heat treated. Their site says $118.30US for 250 pieces. The dies are horrendously expensive. Midway wants $150.99US for RCBS dies(no other maker lists). Roll crimp. And they only have one 3 die set. Not realy a big deal. You can shoot .44 mag or .44 Special out of the revolver.
Dan Wesson revolvers come from CZ-USA. The MSRP for the DW VH8 is $1,070US. SS, 6 shot, 8" barrel. Weighs 4.1 POUNDS!!!
The DW Alaskan comes in .445 Super too, but it's prohibited here. 4" barrel. $1295US. SS with a black finish.

It's expensive having something different. Or wanting something different.

I owned one for 24 hours and had to send it back to CZ because it had been damaged before it got to me. Sadly they are hard to get. I do have some new unfired starline brass that I want to sell since I don't see me waiting another 4 months to get a replacement gun now that I went Smith Wesson 460

If it's any consolation, CH4D.com lists dies for the 445 Super Magnum at $72.45
