44mag load

Looking for a light load using Bullseye Powder for paper target. Using Unique right now 8,5gr. but it does not meter through my RCBS powder measure very well. Im using a 240gr. Lswc bullet.

I havent used Bullseye in a 44 mag, but W231 is similar in burning rate and very accurate. About ten grains is a maximum load and will drive that bullet about 1,000 fps.
With any of that super fast powder, you have to be extremely careful not to get a double load. A double charge would turn your gun into a hand grenade.

I started at 4.5 grains and worked up from there. I decided that 7.2 grains worked best.
1150 fps on a Marlin lever action.

Funny, Unique goes through my RCBS measure like grazed grass through a goose. Oh, perhaps there are minor variations in charge weight plus or minus one or two tenths of a grain, but that never has any effect on the size of a group.

I'd like to echo the caution suggested to you by H4831 concerning fast burning powders like Bullseye. Having said that though, I have used light loads in the 44 Mag with Bullseye and with good results. Here's some info from 'The Man' himself that I've scanned from an old 1st Edition of Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook that may be of help to you.

For Cowboy action shooting out of my Marlin M1894S I'm using 7.2 grains of Unique pushing a Bullet Barn 240 grain RNFP bullet and it cloverleafs at 50 yards. Nice light target loads.

I would stick with Elmer Keith's loads for Bullseye. Alternately, I have found that 5.5 grains of Titegroup works nicely with either a 240 grain SWC or 200 grain RNFP.

I concur that the fast powders are fine for light loads and prefer to use slower powders for heavy loads rather than push the envelope with the fast powders.

You can't go wrong with Accurate Arms #5, IMHO. Similar burning rate to Unique in a ball powder form. Runs through a powder measure like greased lightning.
