Hey everyone,

I looking for some recommendations for lower priced 44 mag ammo. I want something that still expands on impact and is loaded to full power but doesn’t break the bank. I know 44 mag is pricy but trying to get the best bang for my buck if you know what I mean. Any suggestions are welcome.

I’m just getting into 44 mag myself. Can’t comment on expansion but I see G4c has 600 rounds of S&B for I believe $529.00
Tenda also seems to have some fairly priced ammo as well with free shipping.

You picked the wrong caliber if you don’t want to break the bank. Question what your application, hunting, plinking, out of a rifle or handgun? I owned half a dozen over the years ranging from Desert Eagles, S&W revolvers and lever action rifles and found reloading the way to go if you want to be a volume shooter. However if you shoot a box or two a year then just buy the cheapest brand, save the brass and hopefully find someone who can help you out. Good luck.

I am looking for something that can double as a deer hunting round and a fun time at the range. They will be fired through a 16 inch barreled lever gun. I know they are expensive but I am looking for something in the 1.5-2 dollar a round range not the 3-4 dollar range that works. I saw the sale at g4c for less than a buck a round but the s&b looks to be loaded lighter than I would like.

The S&B ammo doesn't appear to loaded very light, but the test barrel for ballistics is 5.9 inches long. Likely some of the higher numbers for 240 gr. is due to being tested in longer barrels.

One or two dollars is expensive. Three or four is ridiculous! Not even sure what you're looking at, but I'm guessing it's some kind of gimmicky ammo. I think a few years back I was paying about $30 for 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 240 gr. jacketed soft point (or hollow?). Don't get fancy, 240 is kind of the standard load, and there's no super bullet technology at pistol bullet speeds worth a spit. If I needed some, I'd look for PMC or Prvi Partizan (PPU), or maybe the Sellier and Bellot. Herter is usually fairly inexpensive, but I believe those are actually loaded light.

The other fellas have it right about getting into reloading, though. Get reloading gear and a chronograph and you'll be set. Most of my pistol reloading I do with an inexpensive Lee Hand Press.

I’ve started seeing a bit of Blazer aluminum cases .357 “brass” in the range pails, I gather it’s priced less than actual brass cased .357 for the non reloader/plinker. They make it in .44mag as well, I don’t know if this fits your needs criteria for hunting but price is $65/50 at Tenda currently.

Blazer .44 mag is probably the weakest .44 magnum ammunition there is and also sports a HP bullet that isn't always great. That does not fit the OPs search. I don't think anything does, really.

basically no other choice than reloading

cast lead bullets, or plated or coated will clobber jacketed bullet costs, and factory bullets are almost all made with jacketed

then consider their labour and the cost of the brass (of which a straight wall revolver will basically never wear out).

shooting 45 ACP i'm basically in a very similar position, $40 a box of fifty 80c a round. However primers are 12c, bullets are 25c, and powder is trivial. Say 40c a round. $20 savings a box, if your time is free or you enjoy the process. Maybe 200-250 for a full kit and tooling for single stage (consider a lee turret or progressive if you're willing to be married to one caliber). Ten boxes to break even.
