44Mag Rifle Ammo?

Mines not picky it digests any factory loads other than lead. As far as accuracy goes they're all different you just have to see what it likes.

I've been using 240gr AE HP for informal target shooting and such, not t obad of a price and it will cycle the action no problem. stay away from blazer stuff, its on the light side and wont cycle the action. guns are different tho, what mine groups well with might look like a shotgun pattern from your rifle. what ruger 44 did ya get? the erlier version or the one that looks like a mini 14?

I use Winchester Q4240 in my Rossi mare's leg - 12" barrel - I chrono them at 1665MV and others report 1750MV from a 20" tube. That's enough for deer. Winchester states 1180fps but that must be from a 4" barrel revolver with cylinder gap. They are tougher I think than the HP versions for pistols and are a pretty good factory hunting load IMO. However I have yet to hunt with it so consider these remarks in that light.

I use AE 240's and reload Hornady 240hp/xtp in my marlin 1894, both feed and shoot well out of that, haven't tried the leverevelution stuff yet. I see you're from Freddy,if you bought that gun thursday mornin from ross you beat me by onle a half hour, lol. Enjoy

I don't think that you can go really wrong with .44 mag in a rifle. I would shy away from the 180 grain ammo unless you are just blowing up gophers or beavers or something. The 240 grain soft point from just about any maker will do.

Ive tried a few different loads and whatnot. The semi auto action doesnt seam to like runing light loads, or lead. its a different story when using a manualy operated action.

my new little sweet pea doesn't like the Hornady Leverevalution, she's a big pie-plater with it. :( I'm gonna hafta find something else. I'm open to suggestions. Someone said go big go heavy.

I have a sneaky suspicion this going to heavy route could be a waste of money & time. This Ruger semi-auto carbine was developed & produced when the 44 Remington Magnum was brand new. Then only factory 240 JHP/SP were the in thing. Heavier bullets were not popular then. Also these heavier bullets could be a little harder on the action, depending on velocity of course.

my two bits only

darn, I should have mentioned that mine is an M77 bolt action in blued/walnut, as new condition. I would like a 99/44mag, but until I win the 649, I just ain't gonna get one, so it seems! got any ideas for bullet weight for the bolt action?

Oh! Sorry man........seems when a buddy loaded up some 300 grain WFN hard cast for me, the recipe was 18.5 grains of Accurate Arms #9. Shot through a Winchester Trapper BTW.

Cheers........
