Hey guys...

I have about 600 Hornady 185gr jacketed hollow points.

My reloading manual only has data for 185gr jacked bullets for my powder.

I've seen these Hornady HP's online being called FTX's. My manual has data for 185gr FTX's, but none for my powder.

Would it be safe to just use the data for the 185gr jacketed bullets for my hollow points?

Thanks for any help.

What cartridge are you goung to load them in, 45 ACP?
What powder were you planning on using?
I have a 7th edition of the Hornady manual and at a quick glance the only 185gr HP I see is their HP-XTP but I don't see a "FTX" listed.

I'm using 5.9 gr of Titegroup on my 185 gr XTP's ..... no indication of over pressure. I would still advise caution if working up any load.

Sorry, I meant XTP

These are older bullets, and don't say XTP on the box... Just says 185gr Hollow Point.

Loading for .45 ACP, using HS6.

From the Hornady 7th edition for the 45 ACP, using the 185gr HP-XTP, HS-6 powder and a C.O.L., the loads they list are:
8.6gr...............850 f/sec, their suggested starting load
9.1gr...............900 f/sec
9.5gr...............950 f/sec
9.9gr...............1000 f/sec
10.3gr..............1050 f/sec, **their suggested maximum**

From the Hodgdon No. 27, for the 45 ACP, using the Hornady 185gr JSWC and HS-6 their loads are;
Starting load of 8.6gr............888 f/sec
Maximum load of 9.5gr...........996 f/sec

Thank you.

Any time and you're quite welcome. I've recently acquired an old Colt 1911 1A that a gunsmith friend accurised for his own use for bullseye shooting. I may try the same bullet or the Sierra 185gr JHP, possibly with a different powder, either Bullseye or Unique as I have a fair amount of that on hand.

If I were to go for another powder choice, I'd likely go with what odinson made mention of, Titegroup. With their 185gr JHP and in a Colt 1911 Gold Cup, Sierra lists Titegroup as powder used in giving their 'accuracy load'.
