45/70 700 x

Long shot here but are there any recipes for loading 45/70 with 700 X ? The only reason I ask is I have about 15lbs from my trap shooting days and was just hoping to save some money. But like I said its a long shot. I don't plan on doing anything real dramatic with the rifle.

You might consider selling the 700 X as most pistol powders are hard to find; someone else might really appreciate it and you can use the $$$ to buy a more readily available, more applicable powder.

Fastest burning powder for 45/70 I've found listed is Trail Boss, and for trap door only. 700x is faster then Trail Boss. Check Handloader site someone might have worked up loads.To bad your so far away I'd take some of your hands for handgun loads.

I've used 2.7-3.0 gr under a wad of Dacron and a cast 500 gr pill for a quiet, low velocity plinker. I'd say with 15 pounds your good for awhile!!!

I use 12gr in a 450 Marlin (close twin to the 45-70) topped off with a 300 gr RCBS cast bullet. Great practice load, good accuracy out to 50 yds. It will perform well out to the 100 mark but it drops about 6-8". 15lbs will keep you busy.

Smaller cases I'll load 5-10gr of almost any shotgun powder under near any cast bullet.
In larger cases (which 45-70 definitely falls into) I use 10-15gr of the same in the same.

I've used 800x in 45-70 before; similar. I think the load was around 12gr under a 340gr cast bullet. Very light recoil, decently accurate, not that loud.

A plus to the kudos chiefdan - I have found another use for the 10 pounds of HS6 in the shop!!!!

You should look closer at that GMDR data. Created with ancient 15 year old software. Not exactly current data.
Better to contact Hodgdon. There's no 700X data on their site(or on Reloader's Nest) for either Trap Door or Levers, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
