You might want to state what rifle you will be using. Big differance between a Trapdoor rifle and a Ruger number one.

Might help narrow your search.....

The Lee manual lists both starting and max load at 53gr of H4895 for lever actions.

The data for 'Strong Actions Only' goes to a max of 59gr compressed... use at your own risk.

Step one fill case until heaping. Step two scrape off excess. Step three seat bullet.

No, No, No!!! That's for my .300wm only... (just kidding, this should not be taken as reloading information by anyone. Please consult several reloading manuals prior to actually putting powder into a case. Unless it is talcum powder in your toiletry case....).

I looked through all my manuals and nothing is listed for a 350g Hornady, sorry man.

Silverados info from the Lee manual sounds about right for a max load of 4895. I would look a little more into it though.....

You should contact Bob Mitchell at

and ask him to send you his own manual on the 45-70. He probably knows more about the 45-70 than most people on the planet, including the "reloading manual writers". He gives an eye-opening account of his own personal research on the full potential of the 45-70 handloaded round for three guns in particular: the Ruger #1, the 1895 Marlin, and the NEF Handi-Rifle 45-70 single shot.

I just finished my first read of his 45-70 manual (he has written on other calibres too) and am about to read it again. I won't be going back to my "store bought" manuals for my 45-70 Guide Gun when I decide on a load from Mitchell's book. It's well worth the $20 he asks for it.

Listen guys. That was an insde joke between CCCAN and myself. If anyone took that seriosly they are properly better off not playing with guns.

Actually, I figured you were joking. Catnthehat often mentions loading "a casefull/boatload of Varget over such and such a bullet" but I only think he's half kidding...
